Dr. Papa Kwasi Ndoum calls on govt to pay over GH¢7bn owed his companies

Papa Kwesi Ndoum is the chairperson of Ndoum Groupe of companies and also the former owner of Gold Coast Fund Management Company. Ndoum declare that, the government owed him over GH 7 billion and other companies including GN Bank.

In 2019, Securities and Exchange Commission revoked the licenses of 53 fund management companies, including Gold Coast Fund Management which led to the freezing of depositor’s funds.

There has been high demand by depositors and investors for their funds for years but there has been no success.

However, Dr. Kwesi is urging the Ghanaian Government to reimburse contractors who borrowed money from Groupe Nduom.

He said if the government had paid these contractors’ years ago, his companies would not be facing the current financial challenges.

On 26th may 2024, Dr Paa Kwesi had a press conference pleading on the government to pay the owed amount or have a plan to resolve the issue so that customers receive their funds.

“A debt that used to be GH¢1.8 billion is now more than GH¢7.1 billion. It is growing every day with interest. So the government of Ghana and its agencies, if they had paid us even one-third of that money to the contractors six years ago, there wouldn’t be a Gold Coast or Black Shield problem.

There wouldn’t be a GN Bank problem, there wouldn’t be a problem with any of our companies. So today, what we are asking is we are saying let them pay the money.

“If the government doesn’t have the money, let us come up with a payment plan. They pay us, the customers get paid,” he said.

The Majority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin has confirmed that the majority caucus fully supports Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s decision to select Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh as his running mate for the upcoming December elections.

“And then, the conclusion was that our respected colleague, Dr Mathew Opoku-Prempeh, is his choice for running mate. And that is normally the practice, and out of respect, the caucus would have to be informed and engaged about the decision.”

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang argues that the NPP’s past performance indicates their inability to deliver

Published

The running mate of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has warned Ghanaians to be cautious of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) 2024 slogan, “It is possible,” claiming that the ruling party cannot deliver on its promises.

Speaking during an engagement with female media professionals in Accra, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang criticised the NPP’s track record, citing recent events as evidence of their inability to fulfil their commitments.

She referred specifically to the picketing by pensioner bondholders at the Finance Ministry demanding the release of their monies.

She urged Ghanaians to scrutinise the NPP’s promises critically and consider the reality of their delivery when making electoral decisions.

“At a time of different haircuts, and at a time old people picketing at the ministry of finance…at that time they also thought that none of this will happen, they didn’t even imagine that it is possible.

But that has been possible, so when you hear about it is possible, think about it. It is possible to picket at the Ministry of Finance, it’s possible to have a different style or haircut,” she said.

She strongly dismissed criticisms that the NDC lacks ideas and the vision to govern effectively if elected.

“When we say it is a people’s manifesto, we mean it, I keep saying that you can just shut a couple of us in a room for a couple of weeks and we can draft one for you nicely.

But for who are you doing the manifesto for? Does it include journalists? Yes, it includes journalists of many areas of focus.

“But what about the women? What is worrying them that we have to know? And if you don’t talk to them as a group, how will you know? It’s not that you lack ideas, no, those are childish. We’re a serious party. That is why we’re engaging all of you,” he said.
